Martin Gitau is an International Trade and Development Consultant. He is an admitted Advocate of the High Court of Kenya who holds: a Master of Laws (LL.M) in International Trade Law from the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa; a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law; a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) (Hons) from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, Kenya; and a couple of certificates in international trade and development matters from the ITC SME Trade Academy, Switzerland, the Trade Law Centre (Tralac), South Africa and NUS Centre for International Law, Singapore

Key Achievements
1. Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa
Participated as a research fellow for New Markets Lab (NML) in connection to activities that support the implementation of regionally harmonized seed laws and regulations as part of a consortium approach to the project titled "Improving Regional Seed Trade in Common Market of East and Southern Africa (COMESA) and East African Community (EAC) Region.Â
2. Advising American Chamber of Commerce Kenya
Advising American Chamber of Commerce Kenya (AMCHAM) in connection to their comments on what should and should not be included in the United States-Kenya Strategic Trade and Investment Partnership (STIP)
3. Advising Tetra Pak
Advising Tetra Pak in connection to the customs implications in respect of the re-organization of a portion of its business such that the machinery and services that are provided by Tetra Pak West Africa Limited (TPWA) a Nigerian tax resident, to customers in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), will now be provided by Tetra Pak Limited (TP Kenya), a company incorporated in Kenya.
4. UNCTAD
As a research fellow for New Markets Lab (NML), I participated as a researcher in the drafting of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) Handbook titled "Handbook on Provisions ad Options for Trade in Times of Crisis and Pandemic" which is one of the outputs of the global Initiative on Model Provisions for Trade in Times of Crisis and Pandemic (IMP) launched in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
